Lunch Webinar: The Tale of Two Companies: How Adaptive PM Tools made the 2015 HP Split a Success
On November 2nd, 2015, the Hewlett-Packard Company completed the largest tech firm breakup of all time by splitting into two independent and separately traded companies, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE), and HP, Inc. (HPQ). Dave will describe how the separation team was formed, systems put in place to manage the immense complexity, and adaptive project management tools that made it successful.
The company, founded in 1939 by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, had enormous success in its 76 year history but had also become very large and cumbersome with two distinct customer bases, over $100B in annual revenue, and over 300,000 employees worldwide. On October 6th, 2014, the HP Board announced a company split intended to enable each of the two new companies to more nimbly and effectively serve its respective markets and shareholders.
As part of HP’s Separation Management Office (SMO), Dave Snider led the HP, Inc. global real estate separation team with responsibility to legally divide over 600 sites between the two new companies. In this talk, Dave will share a brief history of the Hewlett Packard Company leading up to its separation, and then describe how this massive separation was launched and executed in less than 13 months from kickoff to “Day 1.”
